Anyone who knows me knows that I am forever on the hunt for the perfect shampoo & conditioner. Styling products? Ummm, no thanks. I’ve always been so neurotic about my hair feeling clean that even the most flexible of holds texture or hairsprays were too much for me. I’m so baffled slash enviousness of those of you that don’t wash their hair every day especially if they use styling products. Long story short, after years of trying to not wash my hair every day and countless products tried I think I’ve found a working combo. I’m one of those that washes my hair once a day (a.m. wash / p.m. shower cap while showering) I know it’s not good for my hair, I’ve heard it a million times. I just can’t go more than a day. I stumbled across a few products that have literally changed my hair & I had to share!
RINSE & REPEAT I’m lathered in love with the Kirsten Ess line. I’ve used her leave in conditioner for a while now & absolutely love by the way, but it wasn’t until recently that I decided to try her shampoo & conditioner. I chose the extra gentle line since I do wash my hair once a day. It smells great, lathers nicely. I’m the type of girl that I want my shampoo to lather. I know all the bad stuff makes it soapy like that but it makes me feel clean. The Kristen Ess line is cruelty free, color & keratin safe, vegan, free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates & silicones….so it’s checks off multiple things AND it lathers. Winner.
GET PAMPERED I’ve never been crazy over hair masks. I don’t know why because I love a good long shower so now I have an excuse. Sticking within the Kristen Ess line I’ve been using her strand strengthening reconstructive moisture mask. I’ve used it on just the ends of my hair and completely drenched my entire head. It’s not so heavy that it makes my hair feel greasy or weighed down. My hair felt moisturized but not like I had a bunch of conditioner in my hair. It’s hard to describe but I’m sure you know what I mean.
TWIST & GO I used to always use a separate smaller bath tower to twist my hair up after I showered to keep it from dripping every where. It wasn’t until a few years ago that my mom introduced me to the Turbie Twist. My after shower experience was forever changed. Yes it’s literally a perfectly sized mini towel with an elastic loop on the top but still, this little baby is a must have for me. It absorbs my wet hair well, isn’t heavy (if you use a regular towel you know what I’m talking about) and it says in place / doesn’t fall while I’m getting ready or when I’m just lounging around.
SOFT & SHINY It’s a 10 leave in treatment has been my holy grail hair product for as long as I can remember. It smells good and it really works to protect my hair from heat & styling and keeps it so soft and shiny. Why would I ever switch? Because I’m a girl who loves to try new products, that’s why. I’ve tried Prep Rally from Dry Bar and it smells DEVINE! It works too, protects my hair from heat & styling and keeps it soft and shiny throughout the day. Did I mention it smells amazing? Currently I’m bouncing between It’s a 10 and Kristen Ess’s leave in conditioner which I love as well! It’s super lightweight which is why I think I’ve been searching for it more. I spray all over my hair after I get out of the shower while my hair is still wet / damp, I do this even when I let my hair air dry. After I get out of the shower and while my hair is still wet / damp I spray a leave in conditioner. If you haven’t tried one, it makes brushing your hair a breeze.
BRUSH I only use one type of brush & that’s a paddle brush. I have two, one is my fave, it’s a wooden paddle brush. I can’t remember if I got mine at Target or Walmart. I had my first wooden paddle brush for over 10 years. I recently had to replace it so instead of trying something new I just kept it simple and stuck with what I knew I loved. My sister did get me the raved about WET brush. They had a line of Disney princesses and she got my and my other sister each our favorite childhood princess for our birthdays (ours are 4 days apart, we use to celebrate together almost every year when we we’re kids). I got Pocahontas because she was my GIRL back in the day. I’ve used and like the WET brush but I tend to reach for my wooden paddle brush more, habit I think.
When it comes to style products I’m kind of a lost puppy. I don’t like my hair feeling like there’s anything in it so that narrows down the hair beauty product options majorly. Since I’m not crazy into super styling my hair this isn’t a major problem for me but it has been a challenge curling my hair. Since I wash my hair every day my AND I like my hair minus products it’s hard to curl and keep curls due to my fresh silky soft hair. Ohhhhhh what a problem to have. I’ve managed to find a few products that didn’t totally bug me to use in my hair but still the search as been on but I’ve been lucky to find a few products that check everything on my beauty holy grail must have qualities.
SERUM I’ve never been super into serums. I’ve tried the Moroccan Oil serum which is amazing and smells equally amazing. I liked it but never super felt the need to keep it stocked in my beauty bag. It was kind of heavy, which is to be assumed from a serum but it was almost too heavy more my taste. I tried (shockingly) Kristen Ess’s hair serum and (shockingly) I love it! Before I blow dry my hair I’ll take a dime-ish size of serum and rub it into both of hands and run in through just the ends of my hair, I like to really coat the ends of my hair since I’m about to use heat on it. After most of the products is on my ends, I’ll run my hands throughout the rest of my hair just to give my entire head a little love. Sometimes before I straighten my hair I’ll do the same step with the serum but only on the ends.
I think the thing about her products that I love so much is the work / live up to their claims, and they’re so lightweight & you can’t feel them in your hair, it’s like they only add softness and shine no sticky, tacky, greasy or gritty feel at all. They’re pure magic I’m convinced.
TOUCHABLE TEXTURE I cannot put into words how freaking excited I am that I FINALLY found a product that adds that little bit of grit to my hair that allows me to curl / wave my hair AND doesn’t make my hair feel like anything. Surprise surprise I found yet another product from the Kristen Ess line that is now
my THE holy grail MUST HAVE hair product every women needs in her hair routine. My hair feels like there is absolutely NOTHING in it when I use it yet the curls are there and they’re lasting through my entire day. Falling throughout the day which is to be expected but I love the messy / effortless waves it leaves at the end of the day. I’ll spray it all over my hair, just a light / quick spray before I curl and then at the end when I’m completely done.
STYLING TOOLS I blow dry, straighten and curl / wave my hair. I’m pretty low key on what tools I use on my hair, I try to let my hair air dry as much as possible if I can. I’ll blow dry my hair completely I like to flip my hair upside down while I’m drying it. I feel like it gives me a little bit of natural volume. I alternate the between the heat settings while I’m drying, I don’t like to use the hottest heat setting the entire time but I also can’t solely use the cool or medium heat settings the entire time either. I run my straightener over it no matter if I’m putting it in a messy pony / or bun, I feel like it just smoothes it. For my curls I use a wand, I can’t master the curling iron so that I don’t have that awkward and super noticeable crimp from the barrel clamp. I’m still learning how to use my wand to get the curls just the way I like but I really like the wand I have because it has 3 different size / shape barrels.
