Ok so I as I mentioned in my last post, my whole plan while I was in New York was to do a daily recap each day…well I had wifi issues at the hotel I was staying out so needless to say the last thing I wanted to do after a full day of shows, events & exploring the city was to go sit in Starbucks at the end of each day and y’all can forget doing it in the morning, I tried. Not only was waking up even earlier than I had to to get ready for my day but the Starbucks’ that were near my hotel did not have a lot of seating. I’m not sure how early you have to get there to get an actually seat hence the reason my daily recap plan crashed and burned. I was home a whole 2 days before I left for another mini trip with Brian. I failed in those two days to get posts up for you guys #failatlife. I wanted this mini series about my trip to include my daily outfits, shows I went to do and of course the most important thing about any trip, the food. I so dropped the ball so hard. I usually don’t plan back to back trips but this month of September has been slammed for me between still preparing for SIEBoutique to launch, my NYC trip, a weekend trip to visit friends and the last thing for Sept. is a cruise with Brian (I leave in 3 days). I totally mismanaged my time & planned horribly so I’m trying my best to play catch up. I felt like I needed to explain my craziness and why posting as been slow.
First and foremost I have to say that I had a blast in NYC and for fashion week! Being in the city for the first time in itself was awesome but being there for fashion week was the icing on the cake, so amazing! With that being said, this girl can’t hang with the hustle & bustle of the city. Small fish in a big pond is a complete understatement for how I felt. I have to say this really quick, while I didn’t post anything in regards to the tragedy, I did pay my respects for the lives lost and the city that was forever changed on that day 15 years ago. Being in the city on September 11 was a feeling I can’t even begin to describe it. It’s a constant reminder that every day on earth isn’t promised to us and to not take anything in life for granted. The people of New York are some of the strongest peoples I’ve been around, they have so much love for their city and are bonded in away that the rest of the world will never understand.
I tried to share everything on Snapchat but totally failed, I told myself to take pictures and to snap so I could share this experience with all of y’all but once I was there I totally kept living in the moment. I don’t want to bore you with literally every single thing I did while I was gone and the fact that I failed at taking photos, I mean do you really care if there are no pictures? Hello Taylor, people want to pretty things! This recap is going to be the highlights from the week.
Being able to visit the BaubleBar showroom was one the coolest things, for those of you who have attend fashion weeks before or work in the fashion industry this is just another day in the life you but for me it was like stepping into every girls dream…dream jewelry closet. Getting to walk past the desks of the amazing team that makes BaubleBar such an amazing brand was a little surreal, like these are the people who sit and answer my emails when I have a dumb quinines and answer my calls when I accidentally order the wrong color stone on my necklace. Being able to try on new pieces before they’re available to the public made me feel so cool. I literally drooled over everything and I’ve already told me bank account sorry in advance because I will be purchases almost everything. As if the day couldn’t get any better after leaving BB I went to brunch at cutest little spot the girls at BB said it was super Instagramable which is what ever girl wants at a brunch spot, right? Who do I get the pleasure of meeting, Mallory Ervin & Alexandrea Garza… Youtube Queens! Over the next few days I would have so many “OMG that’s her…” moments running across celebs and fashion bloggers I absolutely adore. I was totally that girl who was creeping and waiting for the right moment to pop up and say hi, I mean when am I going to get to bump into all of these beauties in one area, I seized the moment! As much as I want to name drop every person I was able to meet I don’t want to seem tacky & annoying so in the interest of saying myself from looking like an annoying weirdo I’ll save it 😉 I will say that I got to hang out with a few of them for longer than just small talk and I totally have several new girl crushes. I did tell a few people I met about me launching my boutique, I wanted to shout it from every rooftop in the city but at the same time I didn’t want to be the annoying girl pushing her business, among the few I told they all gave me so much support which seriously meant the world, it’s so scary taking this next step. At shows & events we’re there working or trying to unwind at events so I played my cards very carefully, I wanted people to get to know me and not just be another sales pitch. I saw so many girls selling themselves so hard to bigger bloggers (I mean do you, and by all means seize the opportunity) but at the same time I don’t think many of the bigger bloggers appreciated it very much. A blogger, influencer whatever you want to call them, they weren’t born over night, they worked their butts off for years, working multiple jobs (most still do have another job besides blogging which we all know blogging is like 10 jobs in one), they don’t have time in between shows to spill their secrets on how they landed a big campaign. I genuinely wanted to meet these women because since the invention of Snapchat I felt connected to them, like I really knew them and getting to meet them in person would be amazing. I’m hoping I made an impression on some of them so if i ever run into them again they’ll remember me as that white girl who thought she had sweet moves no the dance floor and not as the girl that wouldn’t shut up about how many likes she received on Insta post (no joke, I actually overheard this convo…totally cringe worthy).
I was able to attend way more shows than I thought I would be able to considering I’m a baby in the grand scheme of fashion week and in the world of blogging, heck being able to have my hair done by TRESemme twice totally spoiled me and makes me want to somehow budget my own personal hair stylist into my daily life (a girl can dream right?) My top 3 favorite shows I attended were Dan Liu, Rebecca Minkoff (hello she closed down a street in SoHo to use it as her runway) It was insanely cool to experience. But I have to say that the Leanne Marshall literally stole my heart!!! Stunning is the only would to describe it. Of the events I attend my top 3 are the Bloglovin awards, the rewardStyle party & the ShopStyle Social House event. Just being in the same room as so many inspirational women not only gave me “all the feels” but left me so inspired and ready to hustle my ass off!
Ok so I ate a lot…not that there was a lot of time during the day but in the interest of everyone I was with I made time the time to keep my hanger to a minimum; coffee and food were kind of top priorities. I ate at so many amazing places while I was in NYC and I honestly wish I would have taken like two nano seconds to snap photos for y’all but one of two things happened 1. I was starving so I inhaled anything that was placed in front of me or 2. I totally spaced and didn’t even think about it. My goal was to take a ton of photos….I failed and for that I am sorry.
One of the absolutely amazing places I dined at in the city and had to mention was Ayza Wine & Chocolate Bar, wine & chocolate a girls two best friends. Don’t let the name fool you, they have so much more to offer than just sips & sweets. Check our their menus here. The ambiance amazing, totally a perfect date night spot or girls night out and the service and food was incredible.
For starters, their wine selection….amazing selection and not enough time to try them all! I tired 3 & a glass of champagne, all were recommended & paired with a few of their tapas.
Azya hosted myself and my group with the most heavenly spread from this delicious cheese & cured meats, a mixture of olives (my favorite thing ever), hummus, to paninis, dumplings, chicken lollipops & one of the most amazing pizza to name a few.
Just when we thought we were going to pop we realized that we had to have desert, duh. Y’all I can’t even begin to describe the amazing chocolates that were put in front of us (they lasted maybe 30 seconds) the key lime I think was my favorite! Did I mention that the key lime chocolate had the cutest little picture of a love bug on it?! I told y’all this place was perfect for a date night! And what goes better with sweets than sweets, amiright? The chocolate martinis they have are sinful. I’m usually not a hug martini fan or of chocolate liquor but trust me, the one I had will change your life!
I’m going to 100% honest that I did make an effort to take pictures of the food at Ayza because y’all the presentation of everything was almost too pretty to eat but unforutnity the photos I took wouldn’t upload correctly. If I am able to figure out what the glitch is I will do a full post because Ayza and it’s food was that incredible and beautiful that it deserves to shine on it’s own.
If you live in the city or are planning a trip to New York City I highly recommend making Ayza one of your must stop spots!
I’m leaving y’all with one last photo….Shake Shack. If it wasn’t for Instagram I would have never heard of Shake Shack or In-N-Out, I live in Florida and I have Whataburger, it’s not my fault. When I was in Chicago I passed a SS and almost went in just to see what all the hype was about and didn’t, I made it a mission to find one while I was in NY. Literally heaven.
This post was not what I meant for it to be but I did want to give y’all a little recap of how everything went: I got a daily workout having to walk/run everywhere, I hailed my first taxi, I got lost coming back from Central Park, I never did see a Kardashian but I did leave the city with more inspiration than I’ve ever had in my life! If you want a more detailed post on places I went, events/shows I attended, food I ate or people I met I would love to do them for you just let me know!
I only shared a few outfit post on Instagram while I was there and I just wanted to let y’all know that everything I packed for my trip will be hitting the blog soon! I didn’t shoot everything I wanted to while I was there so I still need to shoot a few outfits (I know, the city won’t be my background…it’s a totally bummer, trust me I know) but they will be coming so stayed tuned!
p.s. For those of you who travel constantly, how do you survive? All I want to do is sleep for a million years right now!
