recycling one of my favorite a-line dresses

This dress is what I like to call a hidden gem.  I didn’t know I was looking for it until I saw it but once my eyes caught a glimpse of this color combo and when it fit like a glove, I wasn’t leaving without it her!

I was on the hunt for a dress for a friends wedding last summer (so yes unfortunately I can’t link this exact dress but I will link similar down below!), I had no idea what I was looking for, I tend to just wing it, like I’ll know it when I see it.  I wasn’t having much luck and then just when I was going to leave the store I came across a sale rack and started browsing thinking I’d find a little pick me up and feel less guilty because it would be on sale. (I do this way more often than I’d care to admit to)

Ordinarily this dress wouldn’t really be my cup of tea, not the shape but the pattern.  Chevron was a pattern that I loved for like a month a few years ago but once it was super saturated in the market I was over it.  There was something about this dress that I loved.  It’s a thick tweed material which completely blows my mind that it was released during summer but non the less I tried it on and it fit like a glove.  The shape of the skirt is structured & molded to stick out to create the a-line shape which I love.  I looked at the price tag and not only was it on sale but it was also marked down again for some random day sale that Dillard’s was having so I ended up getting this cutie for under $30.  It was originally like $200.  If there was anything that was more meant to be than me and this dress I don’t know what was! The only negative thing I can say about this dress is that it’s so damn heavy.  I’m not sure if it looks like it in the photos but in person and dancing all night in it,  it’s a work out to wear.

I have to say that this super random and super on sale dress has been one of the most liked dresses I’ve ever worn.  Everyone I saw before, after and during the wedding I wore it to raved over how much they loved it.  I was so caught off guard because one it’s chevron and a lot of people are over the pattern and two it kind of looks like curtains given the thick material.  When I told people I found it on super sale they were even more shocked than I was.  It’s so funny to me the things that people end up falling in love of mine….it’s always things I’ve had in my closet forever or things I find on sale.

I love having pieces like this in my wardrobe that I can recycling and wear numerous times.  It’s so perfect for spring and summer weddings, date nights, brunch or any time you need an excuse to dress up! I don’t know why so many people are almost afraid to say they recycling pieces in their closet, it’s absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, heck Kate Middleton does! If you love it, wear it.  Not everyone has a bottom less bank account or designers throwing clothes their way all the time so take pride in your pieces and think of fun new ways to reinvent & style them!

palm print shorts & the perfect wedge

Happy August! Can you believe that in just a few short weeks football season will officially kick off?! Maybe not the best opening line to say on a fashion blog but if there’s one thing I love more than bikinis and the beach it’s football season! Not only were Brian and I both raised in football obsessed households but we both went to big colleges in the south so needless to say football reigns supreme in my house on Saturdays & Sundays, knowing that it’s right around the corner and the madness of the #NSale has me anxiously waiting for fall. Until then let’s focus on these wedges…pretty adorable right!?

Y’all, these wedges are the epitome of summer and as much as I’m ready for fall I’m sad that I won’t be able to wear these cuties anymore.

Everyones been posting like crazy about all their NSale finds, don’t get me wrong I’m guilty but let’s all stop tempting our fate with Mother Nature and end up having a heat stroke shooting leather leggings, otk boots & scarfs and let’s embrace our summer style while we still can.  True it won’t exactly be fall around my area anytime soon but I won’t be wearing a lot of my summer faves past August.  In my mind when the September Issue of Vogue nearly breaks our mailboxes being delivered it’s time to say goodbye to certain things until next year.  Not to say I won’t be wearing bright colors or prints in the fall because I most definitely will but you all know those shorts & dresses that just scream summer….yeah those adorable linen pants, pack ’em up.

Here and now I’m wearing probably the most resort outfit ever! I know a lot of people aren’t super big on bold prints like these palm print shorts so I pared them with a solid peplum that gives you just enough of a peek at the print without slapping you in the face with palm leaves.  Super casual but so perfect for summer brunch, lunch & shopping or even a cute date night out! I would even though a cute motto jacket like this one on for a night time look.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and kicks Monday’s butt!! I’m super excited for the Bachelorette finale tonight! Who do you think JoJo will pick?? All I can say is Chase or Luke better be the next Bachelor!

the perfect transitional utility jacket

I know it might be a bit premature to start talking about transitioning to fall but with everyone still hyped over Nordstrom’s anniversary sale and most of you who’ve shopped it early have started to receive your hauls I thought I would share how to wear a few of the pieces now or in a few months since it’s still way too hot in most of the country.

I noticed a lot of people posting about this utility jacket, it’s one of my favorites.  I own it in 3 colors so let’s start with it.

I know most of y’all didn’t buy gingham during the sale, you bought plaid and flannel but the concept is the same, any button down. I just chose gingham to keep it still somewhat summer-ish.

The clock is ticking on how long I can wear these platforms so I’m taking full advantage of it, no there not exactly fall but they keep the look summer casual.

Since I live in the south I won’t see super cool weather until mid October or November so shorts and long sleeves is a combination I can wear for a few months, that is until I get too self conscious about my pale legs then it’s all jeans!

I hope y’all have a great weekend and be sure to check back next week because I have some exciting news I’m sharing and I want y’all to be the first to know!
