Hey y’all, today I wanted to share with y’all my absolute fave piece of makeup. Mascara is the one piece of makeup that I actually love but am super picky about. Since I don’t always wear eyeshadow and I don’t wear eyeliner except for sometimes on my bottom waterline I want/need my mascara to do all the work and make my eyes pop. If you know me then you know that mascara & shampoo/conditioner are two two things that I’m super picky to the point it’s annoying, I just can’t settle and use whatever. During summer the only thing I wear in terms of makeup is mascara and maybe some bareMinerals foundation. Each time I branch out and try a different mascara I instantly regret it, I have my few ride or dies that I’ve learned I can’t and don’t want to stray from. Depending on what look I’m going for or how much of a rush I’m in will depend which one I reach for. I feel like my top favorites are so different from what a lot of others love which is why I wanted to share! I’ve worn all of these for 8+ hours and I’ve never had a problem with any of them flaking off or becoming clumpy.
TARTE OPENING ACT PRIMER / $22
To start with I use the Tarte Opening Act eyelash primer. I know a lot of people don’t like to use a primer and some that don’t see a difference. I personal love using a primer and this one from Tarte is my favorite. It’s white so when you put it own it makes you look like an ice princess! ha. This is the first primer I tried and never thought about switching until I ran out of mine so I tried the L’Oréal voluminous primer that so many people rave about. I wanted to love it because everyone else seemed to and because it’s like $6. I hated it. The formula just clumped up and didn’t work with any of my masceras. Maybe I happen to get a bad batch but I can’t try another tube.
This is the first prestige brand mascara I tried. I instantly fell in love with LCF especially with the opening act primer underneath! LCF gives you a more dramatic look which I personally love and look for in my mascara. The end of the brush has little brushes much like They’re Real but for some reason I don’t them on LCF, they help me get the corners of the eyes great without making a huge mess. I’m a sucker for packaging too so I love that not only do I love everything about this mascara but I love the gold packaging! I do have to take my time a little with this one, like nothing crazy but since the brush is a little fatter I have to watch around the corners that I don’t get it on my lid.
BENEFIT ROLLER LASH / $24
I was a little skeptical to try Roller Lash at first because I’ve tried Benefit’s They’re Real mascara and I didn’t care for the brush on it, the end of the brush just seemed to make a mess for me instead of helping me get those hard to reach lashes in the corner. The Roller Lash wand is a little different but in a good way. It’s curved which helps lift and curl your lashes. I don’t use a curling wand so this help to give your lashes a little oomph and lift. The formula is light weight and I don’t notice it clumping. I’ll grab this one when I’m in a rush because it’s easy for me to use. Since the wand is curved I will flip it over to where the curved part is under my lashes and it helps to push them up.
Y’all this is by far my favorite drugstore mascara! The brush is straight but gives the best length! I’ve used this stuff since high school and at one point I thought they were going to discontinue it and I panicked and bought so many tubes of it just in case. I don’t think it’s one of Maybelline’s best selling mascaras which is why it get’s hard for me to find in stores but it’s seriously so worth trying! The formula is so light weight and is one I’ll reach for when I’ in a rush because I can maneuver the brush so well that I hardly ever get it around my eyes. The brush is perfect for your bottom lashes too since it’s thinner.
BOBBI BROWN EYE OPENING / $30
Of all the mascaras I’ve talked about this one is literally the most controversial. haha. I say that because I read a ton of reviews of it and either you LOVE it or your absolutely HATE it. There is no middle ground. There is no oh it’s ok but I’ll still use it. If you’ve ever tried it or know anyone who has you totally know what I mean. The first time I tried this mascara I was like oh no…this is terrible. Why is so bad? I went through like stages of grief and angry….I was so confused. I tried it the next day and y’all I fell head over heels in love with it! It’s crazy but it’s true. It makes my lashes look so thick and full. The brush is huge so as much as I love it I have to take a little extra time to put it on but it’s so worth it.
HOW I APPLY
I apply the primer & the mascaras the same way for all. I start at the base of my lashes and use kind of back and forth motion as I move to the top of my lash. After I apply the primer I don’t let it get fully dry before I apply my mascara. By the time I put it on both the top & bottom lashes of each eye I immediately start apply mascara to give you a time frame. Depending on the shape of the brush will depend if I roll it a certain way. There are some days when my lashes seem to have a mind of their own and I have to give some of them a little extra TLC to get them to curl and not stick straight out. I always apply 2 coats of mascara…2 seems to be the magic number for me no matter how thick the formula is. To avoid clumping, I wipe off the end and anywhere on the brush I see an excessive mascara on the top of the bottle. I feel like this is the standard for applying mascara but if y’all any tips or tricks I’d love to hear them!
