I’ve received so many compliments and questions regarding the beaded necklace I’ve been wearing in some of my IG photos recently as well as the blue beaded bracelet I featured in a previous post. If you’ve tapped y photos you would have seen that it’s from Tribe + Glory. I decided that I didn’t want to a a typical post with just styling pieces from the brand, I wanted to tell you about the ladies behind the brand and the amazing company that is Tribe + Glory.
Tribe + Glory is the jewelry line hand-crafted by artisans in the women’s empowerment program of Empower a Child. We work to provide active measures of hope and opportunity for entire community transformation.
Just to give y’all a little insight on what these amazing women do to created these beautiful beaded pieces here’s a little info on the process of how it’s all made.
First, the recycled paper is measured and cut using a ruler and basic paper cutter. This step is all about the details because the length and width that the paper is cut determine the shape and size of the bead it will make.
Next, the women hand roll the cut paper into a bead. Here, the style of the bead is determined by how the paper is aligned (to the center or the side). When they reach the end of the paper, a kind of super glue is used to hold down the tip and keep the beads shape until the next step.
Once the beads have been rolled, they are strung to be varnished. A special bead varnish is used to keep the beads shape, give them their shine, and make them water resistant! Each bead will go through the process of being varnished, examined, and air dried three times before it is used in the jewelry. At the end of the varnishing process, all the beads are checked and the imperfect beads are put aside. (We do not throw out the imperfect beads because we have a Christmas surprised planned to put them to use).
Next, the beads are strung into the different Tribe + Glory styles.
Lastly, the string is finished and sealed by gently melting the ends. Then the jewelry is complete and ready to be shipped to America!
I’m so grateful to have gotten the opportunity to talk to and work with Loren the director of Tribe + Glory. It’s truly an honor to help spread the word of this amazing brand. When you buy a piece of jewelry you’re empowering a community! All profits benefit the women and village behind the line!
Tribe + Glory will be launching their new fall line in September, trust me you don’t want to miss it!! Be sure to follow along on their IG and like them on Facebook for all the latest news & launches!
p.s. I’ll be posting styled photos of all my T + G pieces in future posts & on IG. I wanted to dedicate a full to these amazingly talented women of Uganda and to the phenomenal brand that has a such a power message instead of focusing on me.
