Unlike a beach holiday where you can throw a few bikinis and a pair of flip flops in a case, a city break needs a carefully considered wardrobe. It doesn’t matter whether you are jetting off to Barcelona, Rome, or Paris; your city break is likely to be full of culture, sightseeing, and exploring. However, what on earth do you wear? With the wrong clothing, it can be a disaster — blistered feet and sunburn anyone? Thought not! Fear not though – take a look at our guide to packing for a city break.
If you are off on your city break in the summer, a maxi dress or two is an excellent idea. They are a true summer staple – stylish and cool during the day, but when partnered with a pair of wedges and some chunky jewelry becomes boho-glam for those evening cocktails – plus, rolled up, they take up very little room!
If you are off exploring, light and floaty clothes will keep you fresh if maxi-dresses are not your thing. Look at cami tops and kaftans, floral playsuits or rompers and tea dresses, which are comfy and bang on trend – they also look great with a pair of trainers. Fashion that’s comfortable AND cool: who would have thought it?
T-shirts or a short cropped top are also handy. Wear them with some denim shorts, and they’ll keep you cool as you explore the rest of the city.
Comfortable footwear is essential when you are on a city break. You are likely to do miles and miles of walking, and the last thing you want is blistered or sore feet. Thankfully, the 90’s revival that we are currently in means that sneakers are back in fashion as well as being super comfortable. Pair them with pleated midi skirts for a cool look.
Once the sun has set though, you will probably be heading out for a well-deserved cocktail or three, and this is where you want a touch of glamour, especially amongst chic European woman. A pair of wedges add height and glamour to pretty much any outfit, whether it’s ‘jeans and a nice top’ or a dress.
Jeweled sandals are a stylish alternative to heels, perfect for channeling that beach-to-bar look, while the added glitz adds a dash of glamour that every summer evening in Europe needs.
Every girl needs a good pair of sunglasses. It is the ultimate chic finishing touch to any outfit while keeping your eyes safe from the sun’s rays at the same time. Big glasses are always good and add instant glamour and mystery. Pair them with a floppy sun hat to channel your inner diva!
If there is one accessory that you should never go out without, it’s sunscreen. You might not be lounging about by the pool or the sea, but when you are out and about, it is easy to forget how intense the sun is and end up burned, or even worse, unwell with sunstroke.
Be safe and apply plenty before you head out into the sun.
